    How Your Free Quote Works

Three steps from your first message to a cured floor, planned around Highveld weather, winter cold and the power supply.

    1

    Tell us about the floor

Phone 011 018 0264 or use the quote form. Your suburb, a rough size and a photo or two are enough to start, plus what the space is used for: a garage, a kitchen, a showroom or a factory floor. The visit and quote cost nothing.

    2

We test the slab on site

We measure, check moisture, look at every crack and any old paint or oil, and ask how the floor is used. Then we talk through the finishes that suit it and your budget.

    3

    Fixed quote, then the install

You get one written price with the prep itemised and the dates you can walk, park or load on it. Once you say yes, we book days that suit the weather and your routine, and lay the floor.

The work you never see decides how long the floor lasts

Epoxy grips the concrete, not the dust or paint on top of it, so most of the first day is preparation. The same checks tell us what can stay and what must go, for instance whether your tiles can be coated over.

    Grinding, not etching

A diamond grinder with dust extraction takes off the weak, dusty top skin of the concrete and leaves a rough profile the primer can grip. The South African data sheet we checked says concrete must be prepared mechanically to remove that cement skin, so a wash or an acid etch is not enough.

    Cracks sorted by type

A dead crack is filled. One that still opens and closes, as happens on the expansive clays in parts of Gauteng, is cut out and treated as a joint so it does not telegraph through the new coating.

    Damp and oil found first

The data sheet rules out coating over rising moisture, and oil stops a primer gripping at all. Both are tested for before we commit to a system, and a damp slab gets a moisture-tolerant primer.

How we plan the install days in Johannesburg

Once resin is mixed it has to be used, and once it is down it has to stay dry and warm enough to cure. Three local things shape the schedule.

    Power

Grinders, extraction and mixers all run on mains power. In June 2024 City Power announced load reduction for more than 80 high-use areas, in blocks of up to two and a half hours, to protect its network in winter. When cuts like that are scheduled, we check your area and plan grinding and mixing around them, or bring backup power.

    Afternoon storms

From November to March Johannesburg gets regular afternoon thunderstorms, and fresh epoxy must be kept away from damp, condensation and water for at least 24 hours. Garages, patios and entrances are coated early in the day with doors closed by the time the clouds build.

    Cold nights

Winter nights here can drop below freezing. The data sheet asks for the slab to sit at least 3 °C above the dew point, because cold and damp cause a cloudy bloom on the surface. So winter coats go on later in the morning, and any heating is electric, never gas or paraffin.

How slab temperature changes working time, recoat wait and cure time for one South African floor epoxy
Slab temperatureMixed resin usable forWait before next coatWalk on itFull cure
    10 °C~50 min30 hours~3 days~10 days
    20 °C~25 min24 hours~1 day~7 days
    30 °C~15 min16 hours~18 hours~5 days

Approximate figures from one South African floor-epoxy data sheet. Other systems differ, and your quote gives the dates for the product we specify. The pattern holds, though: a cold slab adds days, and a hot one gives less time to work.

    How long does it take?

A single or double garage is usually two to three days on site: a prep day, then a coat a day with the wait between coats. Metallic and multi-layer decorative floors need an extra day or two. A large commercial floor is split into zones, and each zone runs to the same rhythm while the rest of the building keeps working.

In June or July, add a day for the slower recoat and allow more time before you park or load the floor. Your quote states the walk-on and park-on dates in writing. For what each system costs, see our epoxy flooring pricing.
